There are so many challenges facing the Chin as they learn about us and the American culture.  We grow up and take for granted all the tasks and challenges that face us, because growing up means a gradual exposure to the demands placed upon for our daily tasks.

Here is a list of some of the challenges that face the Chin people in their daily lives.  If the item in the list is a hyperlink, then we have collected information that either describes what is required to overcome the challenge or we have provided forms and contact information for someone who can help you assist a Chin through the process.

Thank you for helping someone else in need.

Food  Clothing  Driving  Speaking English

Food
There are several food pantries sponsored by local churches.  If you know a Chin in need of food, contact these local pantries:
Clothing
Several of the local churches also provide clothing ministries.  Also, don't forget Goodwill for excellent bargains on clothing, furniture, and cookware.
Driving
It can be a significant challenge to come into the U.S. with very little experience driving here.  Add to that the challenge of not knowing the language printed on the signs.  The Chin are required to memorize the meanings of signs through their shape and pictures.  Driving also requires a special process, since the Chin aren't citizens.  Click here for a quick recap of the process to obtain a driver's license for a Chin person.
Speaking English
Learning the English language is a challenge for anyone, even if you did grow up here!  One local church provides group classroom instruction in the basics of English.
Government Id
We take for granted our ability to many services and benefits by quickly flashing our driver's license.  Each Chin must undergo a process to obtain a government id.  They have no Social Security Card. Click here for a quick recap of the process to obtain a government id for a Chin person.
The need is so much more and the types of situations so broad that it is difficult to list them all.  If you are aware of a process, a checklist that should be followed, or forms that are necessary to be completed, please submit them to us, and we will see if we can incorporate them into our references here.
